Here’s Johnny! THE SHINING Getting 4K Release Just in Time For Halloween

Halloween is the perfect season to revisit some of your favorite horror films. If you’ve got friends who are into marathons or horror sessions, it’s made even better when you all gather together for a night of carnage, scares, and terror. Today, Warner Bros Home Entertainment is ensuring this Halloween will be a success with the announcement that Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining will be coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray and digital!
This 4K edition will be Kubrick’s original version, which ran 144 minutes. The 4K remastering was done using a new 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative at Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging. Filmmaker Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick’s former personal assistant Leon Vitali worked closely with the team at Warner Bros. during the mastering process.
I’m willing to bet that this restoration was helped in part because of Spielberg’s use of The Shining in last year’s Ready Player One.
“Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer’s block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack’s writing goes nowhere and Danny’s visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel’s dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.“
The film will release on October 1.
