HEREDITARY Director Says Follow-Up MIDSOMMAR is “WIZARD OF OZ for Perverts”

Jordan Peele’s Us isn’t the only hotly anticipated sophomore horror movie of 2019; we’re also looking forward to Ari Aster’s follow-up to his smash success, Hereditary (a film that dominated Best of 2018 lists). The plot of Midsommar is somewhat ambiguous at this time, but aster previously described the film as “an apocalyptic break-up movie”—whatever that means!

More recently, Aster talked about Midsommar to the folks at Vulture. While plot points and details were still kept close to his chest, the writer/director explained what fans can expect by comparing it to Hereditary:

“It’s a breakup movie, in the same way that Hereditary is a family tragedy. It’s less overtly a horror movie, but it’s still working in that same space. It’s very macabre. But people shouldn’t go in expecting Hereditary.”

Most interesting, however is this little missive:

“It’s a Wizard of Oz for perverts.”
