Jason Blum Confirms No New SINISTER Movies—But Hints TV Might Be a Possibility

Yesterday, we reported that Jason Blum has effectively ended the Happy Death Day franchise by announcing (via Twitter) that a 3rd film in the series launched in 2017 was highly unlikely (though not impossible). Today, the maverick head of Blumhouse Productions put the kibosh on another potential powerhouse franchise of the 21st Century: Sinister.

Despite having an uber-creepy vibe, a genuinely terrifying premise, and an iconic villain in Bughuul (aka Mr. Boogie), most horror fans were nonplused by one or both of the Sinister movies (released in 2012 and 2015). Though some of us have held out hope there might one day be a third Sinister movie, Blum pretty much put the final nail in the franchise’s coffin.
When asked (again via Twitter) if Sinister 3 was a possibility, he was Blum was blunt: “Nope”.
He did, however, offer a potential glimmer of light for Sinister fans, hinting the Mr. Boogie may one day show his ugly (and mouthless) face again—on TV.
I still can’t completely wrap my mind around the fact that Sinister wasn’t a hit; I always felt there was plenty more fuel in that tank. But Blumhouse has plenty of great stuff coming down the pike, so there’s a lot to be thankful for. Still, for now we’ll say: “So long Mr. Boogie. We hardly knew you.”

Synopsis:
True-crime writer Ellison Oswald (Ethan
Hawke) is in a slump; he hasn’t had a best seller in more than 10 years and is
becoming increasingly desperate for a hit. So, when he discovers the existence
of a snuff film showing the deaths of a family, he vows to solve the mystery.
He moves his own family into the victims’ home and gets to work. However, when
old film footage and other clues hint at the presence of a supernatural force,
Ellison learns that living in the house may be fatal.
