Avary Goes to Wolfenstein
I guess if we can have a movie based on Doom, a movie that had little or nothing to do with the actual game, it’s only fair we get one based on its predecessor, Wolfenstein, right?
Variety reports this morning that Silent Hill screenwriter Roget Avary has been brought on board by producer Samuel Hadida to both write and direct Return to Castle Wolfenstein, obviously based on the re-sexified video game of the same name from a few years back.
The movie, like the game, will focus on the character of BJ Blazkowicz, an Army Ranger who leads a team into the titular edifice to investigate the Nazi’s SS Paranormal Division. Things get messy from there.
ID Software, meanwhile, is working on another Wolfenstein game that, if they time it right, will be in stores the same time as the movie. “I’ve been playing the character of B.J. Blazkowicz since the epic ‘Wolfenstein 3D’ first bruised my brain and have ever since wanted to bring his adventures to life on the bigscreen,” Avary told the trade. “It’s time to bust some dams, storm some bunkers and blow up some bridges.”
Nice! Can’t wait to see how Avary tackles this video game outing! More soon!
