American Horror Story Season 8 to Be Set in the Future; Update on Murder House/Coven Crossover

American Horror Story

The Television Critics Association’s Winter 2018 Press Tour kicked off a few days ago with presentations by Fox/FX, and the main horror news that caught our eye has to do with the setting of the upcoming 8th season of FX’s “American Horror Story.”  If you’re still a fan of the show (which this writer definitely is!), then read on for the early details about that along with an update on the upcoming “Murder House”/”Coven” crossover.

Per EW, creator/exec producer Ryan Murphy has revealed that the next chapter of “AHS” will be set in the future! He declined to elaborate on what type of “future,” but he did say, “All I’ll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I’ve never done.”

Pretty cool, right? Just don’t expect it to be too out there… The future is one thing, but it will “[n]ot [take place in] space,” Murphy clarified.

FX head John Landgraf seems totally on board as well.  “I pitched it to John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he’s asked me not to say what it is,” Murphy added. “I told him, and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it; it’s different from what we’ve done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I’ve done on that show.”

While we wait to see who from his usual stable of actors returns for Season 8 (Sarah Paulson is always a safe bet), one familiar face we might not see is Evan Peters, who co-stars in Murphy’s upcoming “Pose.” “We haven’t talked about that,” Murphy said. “I literally just pitched Landgraf what the next season was going to be about, and the writers’ room on that show doesn’t start until February. It’s conceivable that they could overlap. I mean, Sarah Paulson has done two shows for me that were shooting at the same time. Usually, with the actors, I think of a role and then go to them; and they either want to do it or not, so I haven’t even talked to Evan about what the role might be, but I would hope so. I think so.”

Murphy confirmed that the highly anticipated crossover between Seasons 1 (commonly known as “Murder House”) and 3 (“Coven”) is likely going to serve as the show’s 9th season. “We’re working on it, but it’s not going to be…Season 8…it’ll probably be the one after that. We’ve already met about it and outlined it, but it won’t be next because some of the people are not available.”

As for who those “people” are, Murphy made this fan’s heart beat a little quicker when he said, “I want all of them. I want Dylan [McDermott] and Connie [Britton] and Jessica [Lange]. They’ve all said — Kathy Bates, too — everybody who is involved in the show has always said, ‘Yeah, that sounds like fun; let’s get the band back together again.’ So that is one of the reasons why the writing process of that season is taking longer because it’s literally 25 people’s schedules. But I’m hopeful they will all be back.”

We are too, Ryan… we are too! Let us know what you think below, and expect more “American Horror Story” news soon.
