Justice League’s Parademons Originally Looked Much More Horrific

Although it’s not a horror film by any means, the Parademons of Justice League were pretty horrific in their own right. Introduced into the DC Extended Universe during the ‘Knightmare’ sequence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before being prominently featured as Steppenwolf’s army in Justice League, the Parademons of the DCEU are former inhabitants of the worlds conquered by their master, who were transformed into horrific creatures when he terraformed their planets. They also have the ability to sense fear and have a strong urge to attack anyone who happens to be afraid of them. So naturally, they attack absolutely everyone.

Although they certainly didn’t look pretty in the film, the original design of Justice League’s Parademons was actually even more horrific. Comic Book Resources pointed out that concept artist Jerad Marantz shared an image on his Instagram account his design of the Parademon, which he created alongside costume designer Michael Wilkinson, and although their version didn’t make the cut, the image was still included in the Justice League: The Art of the Film book.

The design of the Parademon envisioned by Marantz and Wilkinson clearly looks much more like something out of a horror film, with glowing red eyes and the look of the mask even giving off a Spawn vibe. Have a look at their design in Marantz’s post below and let us know in the comments if you prefer this look over the one used in the final film.

Justice League was directed by Zack Snyder (with Joss Whedon overseeing reshoots) and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher. And I wouldn’t normally say this, but in this instance don’t listen to the critics, and to hell with Rotten Tomatoes. Justice League was fucking amazing. If you haven’t already seen it, do so immediately; and if you’ve already seen it, go again.
