The Easter weekend box office proved to be pretty good for movies featuring birds, elephants, lions, rabbits, and Tyler Perry – oh, my! Alas, poor Ghostface will just have to console himself with some Cadbury cream eggs.
Scream 4’s second week saw its box office drop 62% for a 5th place $7.1 million weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. Thus far Scream 4 has taken in just a little over $30 million. That might not look so bad if it weren’t for the little horror movie that could – Insidious.
The unholy merger of Saw and Paranormal Activity masterminds held up pretty well in its fourth week of release coming in 8th with around $5.3 million. Insidious’ cumulative take thus far of $44 mil might be a tough number for Scream 4 to break.
In limited release and by limited I mean playing in one theater, Stake Land pulled in $6,900.
The big horror winner of the Easter weekend was the chiller about a cross-dressing African-American Norman Bates who terrorizes everyone in his/her vicinity to get their life together and accept Jesus as their savior lest they suffer his/her wrath. Madea’s Big Happy Family is a horror movie, right?
