2011 Cannes Film FestivalThe Cannes Film Festival has never really been known as a hotbed for genre films, and this year is no exception as the official lineup for the 64th edition of the fest has been announced, and by our count there are only two horror projects on the list.

Mixed in with the likes of directors Woody Allen, Terrence Malick, Nicolas Winding Refn, Jodie Foster, and Gus Van Sant (who are showing off their newest projects both in and out of competition) is the following pair of genre projects. In addition, we thought it worth mentioning Takashi Miike’s Hara-kiri: Death of a Samurai will be screening in competition this year. Not horror by any means, but we know what a strong fanbase he has here on the site.

On to the goods…

  • The Skin I Live In – Pedro Almodovar – This revenge tale tells the story of a plastic surgeon on the hunt for the men who raped his daughter. Starring Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, and Marisa Paredes.

  • Melancholia – Lars Von Trier – Two sisters find their relationship challenged as a nearby planet threatens to collide into the Earth. Starring Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, John Hurt, and Kiefer Sutherland.
