DVD and Blu-ray Releases: May 2, 2017

There are plenty of titles to discuss this week, friend. First off, Blood of the Tribades dropped on April 30th but is part of this list strictly for informational purposes.

Probably the most widely known release this week is Rings, the most recent installment in The Ring franchise. You can pick this up on either Blu-ray or DVD this week, and hopefully nothing comes crawling out of your TV.

Scream Factory’s Beyond the Gates is also coming to Blu-ray and DVD this week. This retro-style offering features Barbara Crampton, whom you may remember from Re-Animator and The Beyond, and has received generally positive reviews thus far.

Fans of TV’s ”Scream Queens” will recognize Abigail Breslin in Fear, Inc. Knowing that she is involved should be a dead giveaway that this entry might just border on being funny. While it does have its zanier moments, this movie does jump around a lot so be prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride.

Folks who love a good 1980’s feel to their movies will enjoy The Barn, which drops on DVD this week. This is a highly anticipated movie, featuring horror legend Linnea Quigley, which I personally will be picking up.

One of the official selections at the London Frightfest, The Windmill is headed to both Blu-ray and DVD this week as well. Touted as a blend between Jeepers Creepers and Friday the 13th, this Dutch entry to this week’s list promises to pack a lot of punch.

If you like Bigfoot, you may want to check out Hunting Grounds, releasing on Blu-ray and DVD this week. What’s more scary than running into Bigfoot in the middle of the wilderness, with few others to help you? I would imagine a whole tribe of territorial Sasquatch might make things a bit worse.

There isn’t much to report on in the way of classics this week, with the exception of the Big Box of Horror. While Echo Bridge did not provide much in the way of what is ACTUALLY part of the collection, they do mention the names Vincent Price and Anthony Perkins, so it’s my assumption that you might find some older flicks therein.

There are a bunch of other movies listed below, so please check them out and remember to check back next week. The month of May alone is pretty stacked, with at least 75 releases, and June isn’t looking too shabby either. As always, pleasant viewing.
