The Trailer for A Ghost Story Is Sweet, Tender, Heartbreaking, and Magical

A24 is one of those studios who can put out pretty much anything and I’ll have my butt in a seat at the theater to check it out. And now with the trailer for A Ghost Story, it looks like that trend is going to continue.

The film follows Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, a couple whose relationship is shattered when Affleck passes away. However, his spirit remains on Earth and follows Mara while wearing a sheet with only eyeholes cut out. His specter then, from what I gather, recalls both of their childhoods, as well as Mara slowly trying to move on, leaving him in a place where he must decide what his purpose for remaining is.

Does A Ghost Story look like a horror film? No, not really. But it deals with death and hauntings in what appears to be a very touching, yet difficult way. I’m hooked and hope you give it a shot.

Look for David Lowery’s A Ghost Story in theaters and elsewhere July 7th via A24.

The supernatural tale stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara. Affleck plays “a spectral figure” who returns to his former home to watch over his grief-stricken lover, played by Mara.

Lowery most recently directed Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. He also wrote A Ghost Story, which, according to sources, A24 acquired sight unseen. The film is produced by Toby Halbrooks, James M. Johnston, and Adam Donaghey.

A Ghost Story tells the tale of a ghost and the house he haunts. Check out some new eye candy below along with the poster.
