“The Originals” Season 4 was held back for midseason to air following the swan song of its progenitor, “The Vampire Diaries”; and should “TO” return for Season 5, it looks like creator Julie Plec will once again be at the helm.

Per THR, Michael Narducci is stepping down from his current showrunning duties with “The Originals” for a new two-year deal with ABC Studios. His involvement with Plec dates back to 2011, when he worked with her on “The Vampire Diaries” before moving on to the spinoff.

“Mike got an opportunity he couldn’t pass up,” Plec said. “He has been a brilliant partner and friend, and I’m going to miss him desperately.”

But fans of the show won’t notice a thing for now because Season 4, which kicks off on March 17, wrapped production some time ago. Nonetheless, it will need its fans to survive.

According to The CW’s president, Mark Pedowitz, whether or not the series gets a renewal will depend on its ratings: “I am a big Julie Plec fan,” he told the Television Critics Association this month.” I am hoping that ‘The Originals’ can continue. A lot will be dependent upon performance, but I’m counting on Julie to deliver for the season.”
