San Diego Comic-Con 2010: The Strange Case of Hyde Heading Back to the Big Screen

Some tales never die. Such is the case with the dastardly duality of The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. While Jekyll was always the focus of the story, there’s no denying Hyde was lots more fun, and now more of the dark side is being adapted for the big screen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, David Ellison’s Skydance Prods., Dark Horse Entertainment and producer Mark Gordon have teamed to adapt the upcoming Dark Horse comic The Strange Case of Hyde, written by screenwriter Cole Haddon.

The good news is that this project is not a retelling of the story we’ve all experienced countless times by now. The folks behind it are looking to give it a fresh take by making the split personality the center of a Victorian-era action-adventure.

Robert Louis Stevenson’s original novella has been the basis of dozens of different takes on the story. Hopefully this one will come out swinging because if you’re keeping score, there are several other Jekyll and Hyde projects in the works, including one directed by Abel Ferrara starring Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent as the deranged duo.

Dark Horse will unveil the comic book this week at Comic-Con. Look for more soon.
