U Get What U Deserve in the Latest Scary Endings Short Film

Director John Fitzpatrick and his crew are back with yet another episode of their monthly “Scary Endings” horror anthology series, and this one blends the “home invasion” sub-genre with some rather pitch black political satire.

Directed by Fitzpatrick and starring Atsuko Okatsuka (Littlerock) and Mike Estes (“Ash vs. Evil Dead”) with a special voice appearance by Gates McFadden (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), U Get What U Deserve serves as Episode 8 of the production’s first season.

Produced (along with Fitzpatrick, Sarah Fitzpatrick, Jessica Chandler, Ryan Dillon, and Adam J. Yeend), edited, and written by Brian Chandler, the screenwriter told us of the film, “Of all the ‘Scary Endings,’ the script for ‘U Get What U Deserve’ is the one I’m most proud of. The original concept of someone calling 911 and of the operator refusing to help was one of the first stories I pitched. John said he liked it, but that there needed to be more to it. A little while later, there was the whole controversy with Kim Davis, the government worker who refused to marry a gay couple. That got me thinking, ‘What if it was okay for government officials to put their personal beliefs before their job?’ which is how we came up with the idea of using a ‘Morality Score’ based on your social media postings. From there, placing the story in a world where Trump is President seemed like a logical leap.”

Chandler added, “I’m really proud of the story and love the way everyone brought it to life. And, being a huge fan of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation,’ having Gates McFadden play the role of the 911 operator is definitely a personal highlight for me!”

Stated director Fitzpatrick, “I loved the idea because it gave a motivated reason to change up the style and look of the series for an episode and to do something different and explore a different sort of fear. The rest of the series had been shot so clean and rigid, I wanted to mess with a looser, more intense feeling; and this story seemed to really feel good being told that way.”

With two more episodes (which will wrap up Season 1) currently in post-production, Fitzpatrick said of the future of the series, “We have plans to begin a Season 2 in late July or August, but right now look forward to enjoying what we’ve created and to it getting it out there for more people to see!”
