Emelie Trailer Introduces the Most Terrifying Babysitter Ever

There’s a common trope in the world of horror connected to babysitters, and it essentially dictates that any young girl who takes on a babysitting gig is in store for a hellish night. But what if that babysitter is actually the villain? That’s the chilling concept behind Michael Thelin’s Emelie, and we’ve got the trailer for ya today.

Emelie is out in theaters and On Demand March 4th.

My movie tastes have always been eclectic, but when it came to the thriller/horror genre, I tended to gravitate to more ‘will they catch them?’ versus ‘blood and gore.’ Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th were staples growing up,” Thelin told the site. “Exorcist was one that stands out, as my sister would try and hold my hands down so I would have to watch the most intense scenes.”

I definitely think these films were an influence as they were all kind of like folk tales to me,” he continued. “I could see telling these stories around a campfire, and you’re not sure if they were real or not. I felt that Emelie has a lot of similarities, as it plays out like this could/did happen to a friend’s neighbor’s cousin from another town over. The tales always grow bigger and bigger each passing year but are rooted in some sort of truth, and that is what I feel really informed this film and how I wanted to tell it.”

Emelie stars Sarah Bolger, Carly Adams, Carl Bailey, Thomas Bair, and Chris Beetem.

Synopsis:
As their parents head out for a date in the city, the three young Thompson children immediately take to their new babysitter, Anna (Sarah Bolger; “Into the Badlands,” “Once Upon a Time”), who seems like a dream come true: She’s sweet, fun, and lets them do things that break all of their parents’ rules. But as Anna’s interactions with them take on a more sinister tone, the kids realize that their caretaker may not be who she claims to be. Soon it’s up to big brother Jacob to protect his siblings from the increasingly nefarious intentions of a very disturbed woman whose weapon is trust and whose target is innocence.
