DreamWorks Thriller Magicus Will Channel the Retro Spirit of Amblin

Though you may not know the name Peter Filardi, you’ve surely seen his work. Filardi is the screenwriter responsible for ’90s gems like Flatliners and The Craft, and he returns after nearly a decade with a horror movie that’s just been picked up by DreamWorks. Read on!

Variety reports that DreamWorks Pictures has acquired the pitch Magicus from Filardi (below), described as a supernatural family thriller in the spirit of an Amblin film. It will tell the story of a hard-working single mother and daughter who stumble into a suburban war of witches.

Dreamworks executive Mia Maniscalco is overseeing for the studio.

It’s interesting to note that reboots of both Flatliners and The Craft are currently in the works.
