Twilight Saga: Eclipse Casting News and Breaking Dawn Legal Woes

jodelle - Twilight Saga: Eclipse Casting News and Breaking Dawn Legal WoesBryce Dallas Howard isn’t the only new name attached to the third installment in the Twilight Saga, David Slade’s Eclipse. The news came down today that Jodelle Ferland from Silent Hill, The Messengers, and upcoming The Cabin in the Woods has joined the cast as well.

Variety posted the following description of Ferland’s character: a vampire who has just been turned. Not much to go on, but those of you who are familiar with the story should have some idea of who that might be.

Meanwhile, Stephenie Meyer, author of the four Twilight books that started this craziness in the first place, and her publisher, Little, Brown & Co. (part of the Hachette Book Group), are beset with legal woes. Jordan Scott is claiming that Meyer’s final chapter in the Twilight collection, Breaking Dawn, bears a striking resemblance to her novel The Nocturne, originally published in 2006. MTV provides a pretty good synopsis of the situation, including this statement from Hachette’s attorney:

Neither Stephenie Meyer nor her representatives had any knowledge of this writer or her supposed book prior to this claim. Ms. Scott’s attorney has yet to furnish us with a copy of the book to support this claim as requested. The world of the ‘Twilight Saga’ and the stories within it are entirely the creation of Ms. Meyer. Her books have been a phenomenal sensation, and perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that other people may seek to ride the coattails of such success. This claim is frivolous and any lawsuit will be defended vigorously.
