Lake Mungo Remake on the Way

Johnny DeppThat’s right, kids! Before the original film makes its way Stateside, Paramount Vantage is already planning a remake of the Australian horror suspense film Lake Mungo.

According to the THR screenwriter David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) has been hired to write the remake for Paramount Vantage, who picked up rights to the flick in November, when it premiered at the American Film Market.

The original, written and directed by Joel Anderson, told the documentary-style tale of a family grieving the loss of their 16-year-old girl, a process that is brought up short as strange events begin occurring after her burial. The titular body of water holds answers as to just what their little girl was doing in life that they will probably wish they didn’t know.

Said documentary-style filmmaking technique has been abandoned for the updated version, taking a more traditional narrative approach instead.

More as it comes. In the interim click here to check out the effectively creepy clip from the original film!
