New Writer Swims into Creature from the Black Lagoon Remake

Universal Studios is looking to reboot all of its iconic monster properties, and one of the first up on the chopping block is Creature from the Black Lagoon. The project is already in development, and this week a brand new writer was brought into the fold. Read on.
Per The Tracking Board, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 scribe Jeff Pinkner has been tasked with rewriting Universal’s aquatic remake. Previous drafts of the script were penned by Jeff Blitz, Gary Ross, Tedi Sarafian, and Paul Schering.
The remake, based on the studio’s B-movie property created by Jack Arnold in 1954, centers on a group of scientists who embark upon a fossil-hunting expedition up the Amazon River. Things get messy when they encounter a prehistoric creature who is half-human and half-fish – but lo and behold, the monster happens to fall in love with one of the female scientists.
Last we heard, Universal was hoping to cast Scarlett Johansson as the female lead, though no deal has been made.
Akiva Goldsman is overseeing the project for Universal.
