Deep Sea Monster Raiga vs. Lava Beast OHGA Teaser Trailer Promises Micro Budget Daikaiju Action

With a new Japanese Godzilla flick coming next year and rumors of a new Gamera flick possibly being in the works, more daikaiju action is coming from the land of the rising son in the form of Deep Sea Monster Raiga vs. Lava Beast OHGA.

A little explanation is needed as this is the third installment in a kaiju trilogy that has yet to make its way to Western audiences, at least not officially.

First came Deep Sea Monster Reigo a few years back. That was a fairly straightforward very low-budget monster flick depicting a Yamato battleship’s encounter with a giant sea monster.

That led a few years later to Raiga: The Deep Sea Monster with a modified version of the previous monster attacking Tokyo. I have seen this one and can tell you it is a wacky parody of kaiju movies as only the Japanese can do, which is to say a combination of juvenile humor and unexplainable WTF-ness. It may very well contain the only scene of a giant Japanese rubber monster taking a piss in any kaiju flick.

This has lead to the forthcoming Deep Sea Monster Raiga vs. Lava Beast OHGA from producer/director/screenwriter/production designer SHINPEI HAYASHIYA. The trailer is not subtitled, and it doesn’t appear to be nearly as goofy as the previous installment, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be. It also looks to have the lowest budget of the series (i.e., now looking more like a DIY home movie).

The first teaser trailer is now online, and all I can say is who knows if or when we will ever see it in the US, but two things are for certain: Cardboard buildings will fall, and only one rubber monster will stand tall.
