The Number 1 Horror Movie on Netflix Is Stressing Out Viewers: “I had anxiety the entire time”

Johannes Roberts’ better-than-expected 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is chumming up the Netflix charts this week. The sharktastic sequel to the original 47 Meters Down is currently ranking as the number 4 movie on the United States Netflix charts. Netflix describes the sequel as:

Two sisters join their classmates on a cave dive to explore submerged ruins, only to find themselves hunted by a shark with sharpened senses.

While Mandy Moore’s Lisa from the first doesn’t make an appearance, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged has plenty of albino sharks, screaming fish, and The Carpenters scored death scenes to make it all worthwhile. A sort of cross between The Descent and Jaws, Uncaged tracks four friends as they navigate claustrophobic underwater ruins, repeatedly encountering a terrifying shark looking to make them its next snack.

Twitter has been having a field day with the release, with several fans noting that it is positively anxiety-inducing, a 10/10 shark movie.

Like the first, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged was a box office triumph, raking in $46 million against a meager $12 million budget. While there hasn’t been word on a third entry in the series (and, please, if there is, just title it 48 Meters Down), that hasn’t stopped this sequel from swimming into the hearts of genre fans in the United States. More than anything, it’s a toothy reminder that sharks rule.
