Video: You’ll Love This Animated TWILIGHT ZONE Fan Film “Reap What You Sow”

If you feel like modern iterations of The Twilight Zone didn’t recapture the captivating and horrifying magic of the original series, you’ll want to give this animated fan film, “Reap What You Sow” a spin ASAP!

Horror fans know Jason Cuadrado as the writer/director of Devil May Call, a horror film starring Corri English, Tyler Mane, and Traci Lords released back in 2013. In recent years, Cuadrado has transitioned into game development with an emphasis on horror VR.

“From there, it was a natural progression to start making movies with Unreal Engine and motion capture technology,” he explains. “As a horror filmmaker, I was always looking for ways to tell stories beyond the limits of traditional filmmaking. Unreal Engine allows me to do things I didn’t think were possible for indie filmmakers.

“As always, my passion for The Twilight Zone was my main source of inspiration.
I decided to use Unreal to write and direct a Twilight Zone episode as if it premiered in 1964. ‘Reap What You Sow’ is about a scientist who returns to the planet to determine if it’s ready for repopulation in the aftermath of nuclear war. She soon discovers that she’s not alone but she’s also not welcome.”

Give “Reap What You Sow” a spin below!

Director’s Statement:

I’ve been obsessed with The Twilight Zone ever since I was a kid. No other show sparked my imagination and horror like Rod Serling’s original anthology opus. I’ve had to live with the crushing disappointment of missing an opportunity to be part of that seminal moment in television history.

Thanks to Unreal Engine, I was able to enter The Twilight Zone myself by going back in time to write and direct an episode of the original series.

This is that episode as it premiered in 1964 for season 5.

The film was written and completed in about a month using Unreal Engine 4.25 as the main creative hub (and time machine). Characters were designed in Daz Studio, imported into Reallusion’s Character Creator 3 for mesh refinement, and finally iClone 7 as the main bridge to UE via Auto Setup and LiveLink.

This short film was made with love for fans of the series (and just in time for the traditional New Year’s Day marathon). And if you haven’t seen the show, please check it out in all its incarnations (available on CBS All Access) to truly appreciate Rod Serling’s legacy.

This has been The Twilight Zone…
