This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Zoe Bell

Born on this day in 1978: Zoe Bell

Bell is a New Zealand actress and stunt woman, best known for her work with Quentin Tarantino.

As a kid, Bell was a competitive gymnast, and also participated in taekwondo, scuba diving, and track and field. Her father, a physician, treated a stuntman for a head injury and came home with a phone number for his daughter to call to get into stunts.

Bell did stunts on both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, eventually becoming Lucy Lawless’ stunt double. Her big break was doubling for Uma Thurman’s The Bride in Kill Bill. This lead to much work with Tarantino, including in Inglorious Basterds. She starred in the “Death Proof” segment of Grindhouse and performed her own stunts, including one where she rode on the hood of a racing car. She had roles in The Hateful Eight and Django Unchained, and had both an on-screen role in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood as well as supervising the stunts.

Other stunt gigs for Bell include on the films Thor: Ragnarok (in which she doubled for Cate Blanchett); Iron Man 3The Final DestinationThe Collector; Poseidon; and Catwoman.
