Akiva Goldsman and Blumhouse Reigniting Stephen King’s Firestarter

Stephen King must be absolutely thrilled with all the adaptations of his work that are happening right now. There’s “Mr. Mercedes” and Spike TV’s “The Mist” plus the adaptations of Gerald’s Game, The Dark Tower, and IT all on the way. Now, you can add Firestarter to that list as Jason Blum last night announced at the Overlook Film Festival that Blumhouse and Universal are going to remake the 1984 horror film with Akiva Goldsman set to direct. The announcement came after the premiere of Blumhouse’s upcoming film Stephanie, which was also directed by Goldsman.
The original film was directed by Mark L. Lester and starred David Keith, Heather Locklear, George C. Scott, and a young Drew Barrymore.

Synopsis:
As youths, Andy McGee and his future wife, Vicky, participated in secret experiments, allowing themselves to be subjected to mysterious medical tests. Years later, the couple’s daughter, Charlie, begins to exhibit the ability of setting fires solely with her mind. This volatile talent makes the youngster extremely dangerous and soon she becomes a target for the enigmatic agency known as “The Shop.”
