Wicked Wood and a Bad Case of Maggots

Despite boasting a title perfectly suitable for a Ron Jeremy porno flick, Wicked Wood is actually a new indie horror flick about a couple that make the grave mistake of bringing home a mysterious wood carved figure called Splinter that comes to murderous life.
The official website for Wisconsinite filmmaker Krist Rufty’s Wicked Wood is now online, and you can check out the trailer below. The synopsis for this Autumn Night Studios/Lazarus Entertainment production goes a little something like this:
“After a much needed vacation, Heather and Ian Dunlap visit Harper’s Store, a wood carving/gift shop that’s owned by a man known by the locals as Mr. Hands. They stumble upon Splinter, an old hand-carved creation that’s been around for centuries. After they are warned to keep away, Ian decides he must take Splinter against all warnings. When Splinter is taken from his base, the evil is released, and soon after acts of grisly violence and carnage ensue.”
Rufty tells Fangoria that as distributors express an interest in Wicked Wood, he’s already moving forward with his next film, a collaboration with 72-year-old Wisconsin-based B-moviemaker and frequent Fred Olen Ray litigant Bill Rebane. You may know Bill Rebane as the director of The Giant Spider Invasion, Rana: The Legend of Shadow Lake, The Capture of Bigfoot, and Monster A-Go-Go, amongst other notorious titles. The movie will be titled Maggots, and with a title like that you can pretty much guess what it will be about.
Rufty plans to keep extra busy with another yet-to-be-titled film this summer about a car crash survivor being stalked in the heavy woods of Wisconsin by a monstrous Wendigo and another planned for 2010 tentatively titled Ice Gator, which, again, you can pretty much deduce what it is about from the title alone. Suffice to say we’ll be hearing about the works of Krist Rufty for some time to come.
