Now this is how you do an effective promo. Yup, the new trailer for the upcoming Call of Cthulhu game debuted on the official PlayStation Youtube channel, and it’s scary as fuck. Prepare to question your own sanity after viewing.

Developed by Cyanide, the folks behind Space Hulk: Deathwing and the Of Orcs and Men series, the trailer doesn’t actually show the titular Great Old One (aside from a brief glimpse of a hand drawn sketch at 0:16), but it does show a whole bunch of other creepy shit, including the ravaged carcasses of beached whales, a gathering of cultist dudes in black robes, and a guy scratching out his own eyeballs. Yup, we’re in Lovecraftian territory all right. This has instantly become one of our most anticipated horror games of 2017.

Call of Cthulhu: The Official Video Game – Winter Trailer | PS4
The trailer we hope you’ll enjoy is depicting protagonist Pierce’s submersion into the depths of madness, as he investigates a mysterious death on Darkwater Island, Boston.

You’ll notice a lot of hallmark Lovecraftian themes in this trailer, which was created to really get across the mood we’re aiming for in the game, which you’ll see soon. The idea that you’re never quite sure if what you’re seeing is real, or a symptom of madness – or both!

A Private Detective, Edward Pierce is used to trusting his instincts, but with whale mutilations and disappearing bodies, this is only the beginning as reality becomes skewed. As your investigation leads you closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, you will start to doubt everything you see. You will have to find balance between your own sanity, and your determination in finding out what lurks in the shadows – as they say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.

Delve head-first into madness as Call of Cthulhu: The Official Videogame release 2017 on PlayStation 4.
