Generally, most of us would hightail it home if we were staying somewhere that’s also occupied by ghosts, but not writer/director Ti West. After finding out that the hotel he and his crew were residing in while shooting his 2009 flick The House of the Devil was truly haunted, West thought all the spooky shenanigans at the Yankee Pedlar Inn would be great for a follow-up effort, and thus was born The Innkeepers.

In the film, which is currently on VOD and hits limited theaters on February 3rd courtesy of Magnet Releasing, we meet Claire (Shark Night 3D‘s Sara Paxton) and Luke (Pat Healy), who are tasked with watching over the Yankee Pedlar Inn during the hotel’s final weekend of operation. The two are novice ghost hunters who up until the final weekend had no idea just how haunted their workplace really was. Forced to uncover the truth about the Inn’s dark past, the pair must work together in order to survive their last weekend at the Yankee Pedlar; if they fail, they may end up another otherworldly guest doomed to roam the halls of the haunted hotel.

Recently Dread Central sat down with writer/director West and The Innkeepers co-star Paxton to talk about their experiences making The Innkeepers, the trials of trying to cast an ‘aging actress’ role and their thoughts on real-life ghosts.

West also teased us a bit about his contribution to the upcoming V/H/S alongside fellow filmmakers Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg, and Radio Silence, which is set to premiere at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in the coming weeks.

Check out our video interview with West and Paxton below, and make sure to check out The Innkeepers now that it’s available on Magnolia On Demand. For those of you who prefer to get spooked while watching movies on the big screen, don’t forget you can experience The Innkeepers for yourself once the flick hits limited theaters on February 3rd.
