‘The Devil’s Stomping Ground’ Exclusive Trailer: Urban Legend Meets Hybrid Found Footage Horror

The Devil's Stomping Ground

Every town, no matter how small, has at least one urban legend. In rural North Carolina, that urban legend is that of The Devil’s Tramping Grounds. It’s a supposedly cursed piece of land where the Devil walks. No plants grow there, dogs are terrified of it, and campers report seeing strange figures near it in the dead of night. Sure there’s probably a scientific explanation, but where’s the spooky fun in that? Now that urban legend is getting the horror movie treatment in Jonathan Landau’s new film The Devil’s Stomping Ground. Landau takes the well-known tall-tale and creates a hybrid found footage horror about, well, the horrors of making a movie, paired with some supernatural happenings for good measure.

Read the full synopsis:

On May 1, 2021, fifteen college film students traveled to the place in the Uwharrie Mountains of North Carolina, known as The Devil’s Tramping Ground, to shoot their senior short film project. What happened that night was a tragedy. The Devil’s Stomping Ground is a narrative feature, edited together from the footage the seniors were shooting for their movie and the behind-the-scenes documentary footage 2 juniors were shooting of their efforts. The film chronicles the day and subsequent night of their shoot. It is a cautionary tale about temptation, pushing your luck, and the inevitable consequences of being oblivious to your surroundings. Will they be “forever changed” as the legend suggests?
