Can Rejects Keep the Screams Comin’?

Devil's Rejects 2006 SCREAM AwardsJust like a proud papa, Rob Zombie has posted in his MySpace blog the news that The Devil’s Rejects was nominated for not one, but five, Scream Awards including nods to Zombie himself for both writing and directing the film. Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Leslie Easterbrook received a group nomination in the vilest villian category.

The nominees were announced today at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Scream Awards 2006, the first annual televised event which celebrates horror, sci-fi, fantasy and comic books, airs on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 10 (10:00 PM-12:00 Midnight, ET/PT). The show will tape at the historic Pantages Theater in Hollywood, CA on Saturday, October 7; the host, presenters, and musical acts have yet to be announced.

“We only need to look at the legacy and recent explosion of the horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and comic book genres to know that the time has come to honor the extraordinary creative talent from these worlds in an explosive way,” says Casey Patterson, Executive Producer and Senior Vice President Event Production for Spike TV. Wise man, indeed!

In addition, Spike TV has entered into a strategic partnership with Comic-Con International to create the Comic-Con Icon Award, which will be presented to an individual or group who has been instrumental in creating awareness of, and appreciation for, comic and related popular art forms and bringing them to wider recognition. The winner will be revealed sometime prior to the taping.

Below are just a few of the nominees. It’s very nice to see George A. Romero’s name in several places as well! And I know at least 15 guys personally who will definitely be tuned in on the off chance a certain Ms. Argento shows up to the Awards, although my vote’s going to Watts in the only performance of the year truly worthy of “scream queen” classification.
