Best Films to Play at Your Halloween Party When You Don't Necessarily Feel Like Playing Certain Halloween Sequels

On the 31st of October every year, my wife and I have a Halloween “party.” We never invite anybody, but like bats coming out to feed on bugs at dusk, a freakish horde of friends and friends of friends magically arrive around sundown. They block the streets with their filthy cars and come dancing through our front and back doors like they own the place.

Top Ten Zombie Themed Songs

Well, it's October, and you know what that means! HORROR OVERLOAD! Not like that's anything different for us, but still! To celebrate the ushering in of the month of all things spooky, we'll be doing lists. Not your average mundane Top 10 yadda yaddas. We're talking interesting and different shit that you won't find anywhere else!

Dread Central's Top 10 Most Kick-Ass Supernatural Moments

If you’ve ever brushed off "Supernatural" as just another teenybopper WB show with a couple of pretty boys, you’re seriously missing out on one of the most sharply written, balls-to-the-wall genre shows around.

Top 10 Axe Murdering Maniacs

With Morgan J. Freeman’s Homecoming hacking its way onto DVD today (courtesy of Paramount Pictures), we here at Dread Central thought it a perfect occasion to take a look back at our favorite on-screen axe murderers as a way of indoctrinating this new blood into the mix. 10. Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare) – Fargo (1996)

Top 10: Outbreak Movies

With The Crazies (review here) remake bursting down our door, I thought it would be a good opportunity for Dread Central to look back at some of the most memorable virus/outbreak movies of the genre’s past.

Foycast 8: The Ten Worst DTV Films of 2009

You wanted it! You demanded it! You waited for it! You got it! At long last, the Foycast is back, baby! It always seems to take a while, but the wait is worth it.

Dread Central's Best & Worst of 2009

2009. It was pretty much as crappy a year for horror movies as it was for the economy. There were, however, some really high points to help balance out all the drivel that was put out there in theatres as well as on home video, and they are to be celebrated, even though technically a couple of them are not even from this year.

Dread Central's Best Horror Films of the Decade

What a decade. Talk about an insane ten years. In it we've seen sequels top originals, remakes up the ante, and a precious few bits of original content do what all quality cinema does -- become instant classics. Join us now for a look back at the decade that was 2000-2009!

The Foywonder's Ten Worst Horror Films of the Decade

The first decade of the new millennium has come to an end, and that means it is now time for film sites all over the web to begin posting their various retrospectives and lists recalling the decade that was. I generally as a rule dislike such lists because they are always so subjective.

Top Ten Greatest Beards in Horror History

You know what really makes a man? A beard. Beards have been featured in films throughout the history of cinema, some great, some good, and some not so great or good. But over the years a few beards have stood the test of time and deserve a little attention. So without further ado ... The Buz presents: THE TOP TEN LIST OF THE GREATEST BEARDS IN HORROR HISTORY

Top Ten High School Horror Movies: 1996 - Present

This past fall saw the debut of the supernatural horror/comedy Jennifer’s Body, and with the film's Blu-ray and DVD release being only a few weeks away (December 29th), I thought it might be interesting to take a look back at some of the most successful high school horror films that have been released over the past 10 to 15 years.

MattFini's Halloween Top 10 Lists: Top 10 Gialli

Yesterday’s list of overlooked slasher flicks got me thinking about their European cousin, the giallo. Sure, most gialli were cranked out before the slasher craze was under way, but it’s hard to ignore the similarities: knife-wielding, black-gloved lunatics, tragic prologues often used establish our killer’s motivations and, of course, excessive female exploitation. In short: total bliss!

MattFini's Halloween Top 10 Lists: Overlooked Slashers

It’s hard to surprise people when putting together a list of the best slasher movies and, in the interest of doing so, I thought I’d exclude all the genre mainstays from the list. This list doesn’t necessarily represent the “ten best”, but rather some of the slasher subgenre’s more ‘overlooked’ offerings.

MattFini's Halloween Top 10 Lists: Best Sequels

Saw VI, much to my surprise, turned out to be one of the better films in the franchise, and in honor of it, I thought we’d look at some of the genre’s best sequels. They’re a fact of life when it comes to horror films so here's my take on some of the follow-ups that either usurped the originals or, at least, turned out better than expected. 10. A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)

MattFini's Halloween Top 10 Lists: Most Memorable End Credit Songs

I set out to create a list of the most memorable horror songs, which slowly morphed into a collection of the most memorable end credit horror songs. And now I suppose it’s a list of the ten most memorable 80s end credit horror songs. But I didn’t set out with that as a guideline. It just sort of happened that way.
