Top Ten Zombie Themed Songs
7. “Living Dead Beats” — Sek
A drum-n-bass groove littered with samples and images from the seminal zombie film Night of the Living Dead. The pace is fast and the pocket it resides in is funky, and it’s fun to spot all the references in the dialogue. While this is not something you might readily think of when the subject of zombies comes up, it’s still great fun.
An alternate mix of the Rob Zombie classic culled from the soundtrack to the painful The Crow: Salvation. This version of Zombie’s ode to an undead lover packs more things of interest than the entire Crow movie did. Thundering guitars and a driving synthesizer line make this one far better than its original.
Singer/songwriter Voltaire has been making spooky gypsy music for a long time now. His performances at conventions are standing room only and a whole lot of fun. The song “When You’re Evil…” is something every self-respecting genre fan should own. This ode to an encounter with a lovely undead lady of the night is great for those long nights lounging in your crypt this Halloween.
Computer & gaming nerds know Jonathan Coulton well. His appearances at PAX are something of legend. This bit of debate between a yuppie zombie and his coworker is spot on and was used as one of the selections in Left 4 Dead 2 jukeboxes. By the end of the song, the zombie’s rationale for coming outside to be eaten almost seems reasonable.
