This is Thom Yorke’s Theme For SUSPIRIA

On October 26, XL Recordings will be releasing the soundtrack to Luca Guadagnino’s reimagining of Dario Argento’s Suspiria, which was composed by Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke (pre-order). Today, the first single from that soundtrack has been released and it’s called “Suspirium”. Featuring musical themes and motifs that will be present throughout the entire score, the piece is soothing, hypnotic, mysterious, and bears a strangely eerie undertone that is thematically appropriate in all the right ways. If this is the foundation of what we can expect to hear from the full soundtrack, I feel safe in saying that Yorke did his job in not copying or emulating Goblin’s original material but rather created an entirely new, and wonderful, score that will delight horror fans through and through.

Speaking at the Venice Film Festival where the film had its world premiere, Yorke stated that the process of composing the music was like “making spells” and that he recognizes it, “…sounds really stupid, but that’s how I was thinking about it. It was a sort of freedom I’ve not had before. I’ve not worked in the format of song arrangement. I’m just exploring.” [Source]

Suspiria opens in theaters on November 2. Directed by Luca Guadagnino, the film stars Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, Chloë Grace Moretz, Lutz Ebersdorf, and Jessica Harper, star of the original.

A young ballet dancer travels to a prestigious dance academy in Europe, only to discover it is a front for something far more sinister and supernatural amidst a series of increasingly grisly murders.
