Sequels... how we love them. Not sure why we love them because except for a few rare exceptions, they are normally tremendous letdowns, but we love them nonetheless. There's just something about seeing that next chapter in our favorite stories that's so damn alluring.
What in the hell is going on with sequels today? With the exception of the Saw and Paranormal Activity franchises, it seems like further installments of successful films cannot get off the ground. Here's a little bit more about that Strangers sequel we've been hearing about on and off for the last three years, but don't get too excited.
The home invasion flick The Strangers fell somewhat short of packing the punch that it should have had and nearly achieved, so we're hoping the long talked about sequel can get the the tension and horror just right this time. Looks as if we'll be finding out soon enough if it will get the job done right.
Me? I dug The Strangers. It lost some steam during the second and third acts, but overall it totally did its thing. So much so that sequel talk is a hot subject right now, and there's one director out there who's a front-runner for the gig.
First, sorry for the lack of DVD lists these past few weeks, I’ve been hellaciously busy. Which is saying something considering how easy this list is now! But here you go, your list of horror DVDs for Tuesday, October 21st, 2008! Hope you have a Blu-ray player!
Wondering who took home the gold and can't wait for the broadcast?!? We've got you covered! Get ready for the spoilers!
The Strangers are coming home to DVD and Blu-ray in just a few short days, and to celebrate their *ahem* arrival, we're giving away some pretty cool stuffage!
Talk about movies that didn’t cry out for a sequel; Variety reports this morning that Rogue Pictures has pulled the trigger on The Strangers 2, with original helmer Bryan Bertino back to pen the script. No word on if he’ll direct again or not.
The most celebrated and wonderful holiday in the history of mankind, Halloween, is approaching us quicker than I think any of use realize and with the holiday comes the hauntings. The best place to experience real terror this season? Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights!
Though I found it dull and derivative, most people out there dug on The Strangers (review) and are probably curious what makes the DVD cut “unrated”. Personally, if it’s not a 20-minute Liv Tyler shower scene, I’m not interested. Considering the “unrated’ cut is only two minutes longer, I doubt we’ll be seeing that.
Things are looking good for Bryan Bertino. The writer/director of The Strangers (review) has just signed a deal with Rogue Pictures, Focus Features' genre arm, to bring them two more thrillers in the coming years according to Variety. A Strangers sequel is not part of the deal.
There are times I try to fool myself and pretend you guys listen to Dinner for Fiends for our insightful commentary on the latest and greatest in horror happenings. Deep down inside, though, I know it's because we're just fucking strange.
