The Stepfather
It's a good week for Blu-ray player owners as a batch of old favorites is being re-released on the format including Darkman, The Stepfather (the original), Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy, and our pick of the week, Supernatural: The Complete First Season.
Things are looking pretty sweet home video-wise over the next few months as some announcements have come out over the past several days, and rather than write up a separate story for each one, we figured that we'd bring it all here for you in one gore-soaked package!
Dread Central’s next final girl, Jill Schoelen, was one of our busiest final girls working in the horror genre. The actress appeared in Wes Craven’s Chiller, The Stepfather, Curse 2: The Bite, The Phantom of the Opera, Popcorn, and When a Stranger Calls Back, firmly cementing her place as a beloved final girl of modern horror history.
Wondering what the box for Nelson McCormick's redux of The Stepfather is gonna look like when it comes home on February 9th? Really? We weren't. In any event we scored a look for you.

Another great selection of DVDs hits store shelves this week (it's obviously October!) including one of the year's most fun films, Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell; the long-awaited Richard Stanley classic Hardware; Blu-rays of The Craft, Killer Movie, and Midnight Movie; and for the Robert Pattinson completists there's The Haunted Airman, a BBC television movie that was filmed five years ago and aired in the UK in 2006.
On October 16th Sony and director Nelson McCormick will be bringing us their remake of The Stepfather, which will hopefully rise above its PG-13 rating and deliver a taught and suspenseful little thriller. Hey, it could happen!
Although the locals still call it "Knott's Scary Farm", the official name for Knott's Berry Farm's annual Jekyll and Hyde transformation from family funzone by day to adult scarezone by night has become known as "Halloween Haunt", where your worst nightmares come to life... Unfortunately, however, one such nightmare -- running zombies -- apparently won't be coming to fruition.
Stepparents can really suck. Especially if they're of the psychopathic ready to kill at the drop of a dime variety. That's exactly the kind that we find in Nelson (Prom Night) McCormick's remake of The Stepfather. Still, even they deserve their own space, and this particular loony has taken up residence online.
Interested in getting two steps closer to completing your The Stepfather autograph collection? Now's your chance! The Hollywood Show has announced actresses Shelley Hack and Jill Schoelen will be attending their July 18-19 convention in Burbank, California to meet and greet fans and reminisce about the old 1987 classic.
It's amazing how now that DVD is waning in popularity, thereby giving way to Blu-ray, how many movies we've been wanting forever are making the digital jump. Next up to the plate -- The Stepfather.
