ABOUT THE FILM

Haunted houses for Halloween have spawned a subculture of extreme full-contact terror experiences. But how far is too far?

Explore the rise of terror as entertainment, by going behind-the-screams and into the lives of legendary scare actor Shar Mayer, maze designer Donald Julson, and the infamous Russ McKamey, as he creates the most controversial extreme haunt of all time… in his own backyard.

Haunters was a successfully funded Kickstarter project, is now streaming on Netflix with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes & has received critical acclaim since premiering at Fantastic Fest (2017): “9 out of 10!”; – Film Threat, “Genuinely petrifying”; – Bloody Disgusting, “Amazing & Fascinating”- Blumhouse’s Shock Waves Podcast, “A roller coaster of emotions” – Modern Horrors, “An absolute blast” – iHorror, “An intoxicating study about our relationship with fear” – JOBLO, “A must-see for all haunt fans.” – Fangoria

This groundbreaking documentary also uncovers how Halloween, haunts, and horror have always thrived during times of chaos, political uncertainty, and war because people use horror

and haunts as a form of therapy to confront their worst fears. Last year the Halloween industry made the most amount of money to date with $9.3 Billion (according to the National Retail Federation). And this year is most likely going to beat out last year.

Haunters also features interviews with notable horror filmmaker Jason Blum (producer of The Purge, Insidious, Split, Get Out), Sylvia & Jen Soska (American Mary & the upcoming re-make of David Cronenberg’s Rabid) and the creators of the most famous traditional and extreme horror attractions in the world.

Haunters has a killer soundtrack with songs from Dead Man’s Bones (Ryan Gosling & Zach Shields who’s also from the band Night Things and co-writer of the films Krampus and the upcoming Godzilla), Emptyset, Original Score by Jonathan Snipes (Room 237, The Nightmare, and Clipping.), Original Score by Alexander Burke (has recorded with Fiona Apple, David Lynch, Mr. Little Jeans and scored the documentary series Mortified) and Neil Baldock (recorded with Kanye West, Radiohead and Wilco).

Haunters is the first documentary to ever get a merchandise deal with Fright Rags, the #1 shop for horror franchise merchandise. Official Haunters shirts and enamel pins now available: https://www.fright-rags.com/collections/haunters-the-art-of-the-scare
