Damn you, Gore Verbinski. Damn you. The man behind the U.S. remake of The Ring, which I grant you wasn’t as bad as we had feared, has been attached to produce a redux of another Asian favorite: Bong Joon-Ho’s The Host (review).

Host Snatches Some New Artwork
Not too long we told you about the ballsy Asian horror movie The Host (review) pulling out all the stops by jumping on every available DVD format right here. Though the news about the film having four different releases come July 24th is old, the cover art for the discs is not.
Here is a rundown of what you will be able to find on each disc type:

Host Goes Multi-Format In July
There is some good news for those of us who were unable to get The Host Limited Complete Edition DVD (review here) because of either the price or the sad fact that we lack a multi-region DVD player.

See Award-Winning Host Free!
Well, The Host sure is doing well outside of the US, where it got a decent release instead of just an arthouse run (don’t think I’m complaining; it’s better than nothing) and it was announced via the trades today that the film picked up a total of 4 Asian Film Awards at the recent inaugural event.

Visiting The Host's Orphanage
In celebration of this weekend’s U.S. release of The Host, Dread Central was invited out to The Orphanage to sit down with Visual FX Supervisor Kevin Rafferty, who discussed the creation of the great Korean beast.

Red Banded Host
You know it. You love it. You want to hug it and squeeze it and make it your own. Some call it "monster," but you?

Host Remake Already?
Now this is just flat-out disturbing. Bong Joon-ho just finished work on The Host after well over two years of hard work getting the look of the monster just right and balancing a horror story with a family drama, and now Universal’s going to come along and muck it all up. Like they always do.

Toronto Madness
Though it’s been in place for a while, the Toronto International Film Festival gets rolling on September 7th, and I thought that now would be the perfect time to remind all you lucky bastards who are going, as well as those unlucky among us who are not, about their lineup for Midnight Madness.
This year the genre-centered portion of the show has got some fantastic titles showing up including:
Bong Joon-ho’s highly anticipated monster romp The Host (September 8th)

Magnolia Sets Dates for Host, Severance
So the predominant question that’s been on Asian cinemephiles’ lips for the past year or so is "When the hell do I get to see The Host?" Finally, we have an answer.
January 29th, 2007...
This is the word from Magnolia Pictures (via Bloody Disgusting), though it was not specified if it will be theatrical (damn well better) or straight to DVD.

The Host Really Revealed
Just when I thought that my Friday evening websurfing would be fairly routine, my wandering eyes settled on some interesting information about a certain creature that’s been cashing in and terrorizing audiences throughout Korea as well as on a successful festival run.
