For those who have longed for a feature-length version of Ginosaji – The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon, the day is almost at hand! Well, it was closer than it was yesterday. Richard Gale, the mastermind behind the original YouTube sensation, is taking his warped sense of humor to Kickstarter in hopes of generating the necessary funds for a Ginosaji movie. If that wasn’t cool enough, Jeffrey Combs is reportedly joining the flick. Take my money!

From the Press Release:
The feature is based on the viral short film The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon, written and directed by Richard Gale, which has received more than 29 million views on YouTube. Due to the popularity of the short, Gale has launched a Kickstarter campaign (which ends Nov. 3rd) to make a feature film version of the horror-comedy, chronicling one man’s encounter with arguably the most relentless and inefficient killer of all time: the Ginosaji. Clad in a black hoodie, the Ginosaji stalks his prey and hits him, repeatedly, with a spoon. For years.

Matt Barone, editor of the Tribeca Film Festival website, said “In a market where, *sigh*, new reboots of the previously rebooted Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Halloween franchises are already under way, (director Richard) Gale’s commitment to introducing a wildly new kind of slasher villain should be applauded.”

On Twitter, the Festival proclaimed Ginosaji – The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficent Weapon as “Simultaneously the funniest and scariest Kickstarter we would ever recommend backing.”

Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, The Frighteners, “Star Trek: Deep Space 9”) has joined the cast, in a role yet to be revealed. He appears in the Kickstarter video, along with a new trailer cut from test footage. The video reveals new concept art and details about the feature story which explores the origin of the Ginosaji, as the victim of his relentless attack struggles to find a way to stop him, and break a centuries-old curse.

Director Richard Gale says, “So far, we’ve raised over 30% of our goal — however, Kickstarter is all or nothing — if we cannot raise our goal of $200,000 by the Nov. 3rd deadline, we get nothing. As a small group of indie filmmakers, we’re calling on fans of indie film to support our efforts to make this movie with the same creative spirit that enabled us to make the short such a wild ride.”

The film will star Paul Clemens (The Beast Within, The Passage, Communion), Jeffrey Combs, Melissa Paladino, Fay Kato, and Brian Rohan as the Ginosaji. The film will be produced, written, and directed by Richard Gale.

The music composer is 5-time ASCAP award winner Wlad Marhulets, who has composed additional music for Hitman: Agent 47, The Giver, and The November Man. Makeup Effects will be done by Dean Jones, a two-time Emmy winner and six-time Emmy nominee, whose credits include X-Men: First Class, Pirates of the Caribbean, “Dexter,” and “Star Trek: Deep Space 9.” Dean created the severed ear for David Lynch’s Blue Velvet.

If you want to give all your money to Richard Gale so he can make Ginosaji — The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon, then take your bank account to the official Kickstarter campaign and hand over your personal identification number.
