The Hole

It's the weekend, and there's fear in the air thanks to five new clips from Joe Dante's long anticipated 3D horror flick The Hole. Still no word on when we'll see it here in the States, but hey, a taste is better than nothing, right?

And once again our brothers across the pond trump us in terms of getting a highly anticipated flick before we do. I speak of course about Joe Dante's latest film, The Hole, which will be arriving in the UK on DVD and Blu-ray on January 17th, 2011, from Entertainment One. Extras include: Making of The Hole, Interviews with Cast and Crew, and Behind the Scenes.

If you happen to reside in the UK, then you're one of the lucky ones who get to see Joe Dante's The Hole in 3D on its upcoming release date of September 24th. The rest of us? We just have to be content with the new clip that's hit the Internet. Sky.com debuted the following clip, which is titled "Terrifying Toilet Time". Sold! The Hole stars Teri Polo, Haley Bennett, Bruce Dern, Chris Massoglia, and Nathan Gamble. Synopsis:

It's nearly unfathomable that a movie shot by the great Joe Dante in 3D and not some crappy conversion over two years ago has not been released here in the States. In fact it drives us pretty friggin' crazy! While we're still waiting for distro news, we figured we'd point out that a new quad one-sheet for the flick has debuted online. Sigh.

Just a few days ago we brought you the official Italian trailer for Joe Dante's next foray into the world of horror, The Hole, which was filmed in 3D and is not some crappy pop-up book looking conversion, and whattaya know? We now have the official Italian one-sheet to go along with it. At the very least it's better than the English promo one-sheet floating around the States that features pensive teens who look as if they're ready to escape to Witch Mountain. And then people wonder why we don't have Stateside distro yet.

So the 3D craze is in full swing and doing huge box office, and we're still wondering ... where the hell is Joe Dante's (shot in 3D, NOT converted) The Hole? Last we heard It might be coming maybe late summer or early fall. While that's cool and all, the 3D backlash is also building momentum. Let's hope this flick doesn't fall victim to it because from what we hear, it's pretty damned good.

Horror has always dominated the American Film Market and 2009 was no exception. And while there was a considerable shortage of titles this year, the overall quality was a huge step up from previous AFMs. I guess there’s something to be said for the lack of over-saturation.

Color us disappointed. The one-sheet for Joe Dante's The Hole broke out yesterday, and for all the wonder and imagination weaved into this project, the poster is about as bland and direct-to-video-ish as they come. See for yourself.

Why? Why can't we resist making ass jokes when it comes to this movie? At times it's as if we have the mentality of a thirteen-year-old! Sigh. In any event, MovieSet just published some nifty behind-the-scenes stuff concerning Dante's latest.

Nope, we're not talking about the blown-up results from a prostate exam; we're referring to some new art for Joe Dante's upcoming supernatural thriller The Hole. You people have such dirty, tasteless minds. That's why we love you so.

Although Cannes, Toronto, and a few other film fests garner the lion's share of media attention, the Venice International Film Festival is certainly no slouch, as evidenced by the fact that it's just about to celebrate its 66th anniversary. The fest's line-up was announced today, and we're happy to report that quite a few genre offerings were included, both in and out of competition.

Tonight horror fans got the rare chance to relive their childhood at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica, which hosted a Joe Dante double feature of his 1984 creature feature masterpiece Gremlins that was followed up with his 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
