The Crow
Well, that was fast. Just yesterday we reported about a settlement being reached between the Weinsteins and Relativity Media regarding The Crow remake, and today a director has been named. Read on for the skinny!
Relativity Media and the Weinsteins have been duking it out over who owns the film rights to The Crow for many, many months. Possible directors and stars have already come and gone as a result of the turbulence. Finally, though, an agreement has been reached...
The Crow is a film property that has to be truly cursed. Everything from tragic accidental deaths to lawyers have kept these movies from happening. Star Bradley Cooper was attached to the latest redux, and he, too, left. Why, you ask? We'll let him answer that!
We remember when the new version of The Crow was well on track. But then bumps in the road started sprouting up in mountainous proportions. Lawsuits. Actors leaving. And finally the coffin nail came: Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo jumped ship. Maybe this project is cursed.
Starring Brandon Lee, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott, Rochelle Davis
Directed by Alex Proyas
The Crow just can't seem to keep anyone attached to it, huh? Yes, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo becomes yet another person who was once attached to Relativity Media's ill-advised remake. He's moving on to other things now, however, while producer Edward "I'll get this film made if I have to hold someone at gunpoint to do it" Pressman goes back to the well of acclaimed foreign directors.
A tidbit of news regarding the upcoming The Crow reboot hit the Internet today in the form of producer Edward R. Pressman saying that a script has been delivered in the last 48 hours by Alex Tse, one of the Watchmen scribes.
Adaptations of the James O'Barr graphic novel The Crow have been notoriously cursed in the industry. Legal battles, failed careers, even accidental tragic deaths have been following the property for decades. Now, more trouble for the remake has surfaced.
Fan of James O'Barr's legendary comic book The Crow? Then brothers and sisters do we have some really good news for you! News that could have only happened at the San Diego Comic-Con.
From the Press Release
Seems like we'll be getting that Crow reboot whether we want it or not. It's too much of a recognizable property (despite there only being one decent film in the franchise) for Hollywood to let it rest in peace. So despite the legal battle that's currently raging, we're told that The Crow WILL return! Um. Yay?
And the behind-the-scenes legal battle for The Crow rages on. Both The Weinstein Company and Relativity Media have issued statements today regarding the recent legal proceedings, both of which paint vastly different pictures. This is better than the plot to every sequel!
According to Relativity:
It can't rain all the time, but when it does, we're hoping that in Blu-ray high definition it will look better than ever. That's right, kids! The movie that started all the hoopla, ending in the tragic death of its star Brandon Lee, is getting set to make its debut in glorious 1080p.
Things are really heating up between Relativity Media and the Weinsteins over the proposed remake of The Crow. Then again, if the production wasn't troubled, would it really be a Crow flick? The curse flies on!
What is it about The Crow movies that keeps them mired in controversy? Has any of them ever gone off without a hitch? A new dispute over the rights to the planned Crow remake between Relativity Media and The Weinsteins has just hit our radar. Read on for the details.
It really is hard to imagine anyone filling the shoes of Brandon Lee in the new version of the film that made him a tragic legend of sorts. To say that he nailed the role of Eric Draven in The Crow is a bit on an understatement.
