The Birds
Universal is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012 and will commemorate its centennial with a yearlong celebration honoring the studio’s rich film history and cultural legacy, which, as every horror fan knows, includes a plethora of genre films. A significant element of the centennial includes the extensive restoration of 13 of the studio’s most beloved titles, 6 of which are near and dear to our hearts.
Hey, kids! Do you love your horror sumthin’ fierce? Are you lookin’ for a place to mingle amongst your fellow fiends and bask in the warm, green glow of famous zombies and assorted masters of horror? Well then, Saturday Nightmares is the place for you! This June 3rd-5th, the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, NJ, goes to HELL...and plays host to horror’s elite.
Up-and-coming convention Saturday Nightmares, which runs this June 3-5, 2011, in East Rutherford, NJ, has quite an impressive lineup. From a live screening of The Birds with star Tippi Hedren to a Martin screening with John Amplas to Barbara Steele introducing The Pit and the Pendulum, it has a little something for everyone.
With the A Nightmare on Elm Street junket in full swing today (expect a full report soon), Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller offered some updates on several upcoming projects that we've been waiting to hear about.
In the case of Platinum Dunes' remake of Hitchcock's classic The Birds, you'd think that all the various delays, rewrites, etc., might have the producers reconsidering their plans; but no, it appears to be full steam ahead with the project despite the fact that it recently lost its director, Martin Campbell, to The Green Lantern redux.
The votes are in (2,933 of them in fact), and the winners of the 7th annual Rondo Hatton Awards have been announced. Apparently the big upset this year came in the Best Model, Toy, or Collectible category, where "The Birds Barbie" beat out her competition. No surprise to me; she's been kicking butts and taking names since she first got into town! I certainly ordered mine the first chance I had.
With Knowing nabbing the #1 slot at the box office (lord only knows why), two people who are the toast of the town are the film's writers, married couple Stiles White and Juliet Snowden. Why should you care? Because they're also the duo who will be responsible for the upcoming Poltergeist and Birds remakes.
MarketSaw recently had an opportunity to chat with actress Brenna Lee Roth and managed to get a particularly interesting bit of information. The upcoming remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds is not only moving forward; it might just even be in 3D!
Wow; first Platinum Dunes abandons its remake of Near Dark, now it's moving on from Rosemary’s Baby. Maybe some things are sacred after all? Is it irony that I’m referring to Rosemary’s Baby as sacred?
I know you’ve all been waiting not so patiently since we first announced that Mattel was making a Birds Barbie, so I’m happy to inform you that she’s finally here! Click here or on the image below to order The Birds Barbie via Evilshop, then come with theories as to why she’s still smiling despite being attacked by murderous avian!
Just when you didn’t think you could see any weirder stuff on this here site, we slap you upside the head with Barbie! But she’s not just any Barbie, oh now; she’s a Tippi Hedren Barbie from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds!
Barbie Vs. The Birds? Why the hell not? I mean, Hitchcock was huge on having important female characters in most of his suspense films; maybe this is just the beginning of a new line from Mattel. A man can dream, can’t he?
How ironic that the first I hear about a new Barbie doll based on Tippi Hedren's character in the classic The Birds comes from gossip site Defamer of all places.
Though it’s a bit slow by today’s standards, Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds is still seen by most as one of the most terrifying movies they’ve seen, be they hardcore horror fans casual moviegoers.
Now this is the kind of smart thinking I like to hear from the world of Hollywood; Brad Fuller, one of the producers at Platinum Dunes, told the folks at B-D last night that there are absolutely no plans for another Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Finally, someone admits they don’t want to create a trilogy.
