The Asylum

On December 16th, The Asylum is set to release The Day The Earth Stopped, their mockbuster version of Fox's big budget The Day The Earth Stood Still remake starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly opening on December 12th. At least that was the plan. I know from my communications with past Asylum employees that they've raised the ire of Hollywood studios before, but never before has it led to legal action - until now.

Yes, Evil is a new movie from The Asylum. Please don't click away just yet. Hear me out for a second. This one is actually worth your time to take a look at. In a good way, I mean. Seriously, the trailer is actually worth watching.

Take the Insane Clown Posse and former ECW wrestler Ravenm (also of WCW, WWE, RoH, TNA...) and put them in an Asylum mockbuster of the upcoming Death Race remake directed by the guy who did the blood-soaked Cemetery Gates and the seriously wacko Demons at the Door and what do you get? From the looks of the trailer for Death Racers: one seriously gonzo splatterfest.

It only figures that the Insane Clown Posse would find themselves in an asylum sooner or later. They are insane, aren't they? But this asylum is The Asylum, those masters of the motion picture mockbuster like Alien vs. Hunter and Snakes on a Train. Just this week they released Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Skulls; bet you can't guess what that's a mockbuster of.

I'm going to assume you've heard of this movie called Cloverfield, right? Giant monster, New York City, handheld footage: pretty much the Blair Zilla Project. I hear there's a lot of hype surrounding it. Something about a viral marketing campaign too. Lots of anticipation. Comes out on 1-18-08.
