Underworld
Hot vampire chicks, leather-clad with guns blazing. That’s the appeal of Underworld, yes? It certainly doesn’t hurt, that’s for sure. And while the ever-expanding franchise blasts its way into theaters with a fourth entry this weekend, I’d argue there’s more to these things than sexy British chicks wielding all kinds of deadly weapons.

Now this is what we call good news. After the Twi-Heads get their time at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 21st, the following day, July 22nd, the grown-ups of Underworld 4: New Dawn, will head to Hall H to show the kids how to do that whole vampire/lycan thing right.

It looks like the final nail went into the casting couch's coffin today as Sony Pictures Entertainment launched Face of the Fan, a new initiative for virtual talent sourcing. First on their list of projects to lend a hand to is Screen Gems' and Lakeshore Entertainment's Underworld 4.
News that a fourth Underworld movie is preparing to go before the cameras is no surprise. That Kate Beckinsale will be returning as vampiric death dealer Selene might be somewhat surprising given her absence in the third installment that went the prequel route instead.
So it appears things aren't coming together as quickly as hoped for the latest Underworld installment as its release date has just been pushed back from September 23, 2011, to January 20, 2012.
Len Wiseman (aka The Luckiest Man Alive as far as I'm concerned) was kicking around the San Diego Comic-Con promoting the television reboot of Hawaii Five-0, and the conversation inevitably turned to the Underworld franchise and the question of a fourth installment.
The Underworld franchise is a bit of an anomaly. Usually the longer a franchise runs, the worse the films get. In the case of Underworld it's just the opposite. With a fourth version coming at us in 3D, there's been a lot of speculation as to what will happen. A sequel to the prequel? A sequel to the sequel? Finally a few details have emerged.
The Underworld franchise is pretty rare in that it actually has been getting better as it goes along. In fact, we'd call that a goddamn anomaly. With a fourth entry on the way, can the wheel keep rolling uphill?
With all the news that keeps pouring in today, I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. If you own a Blu-ray player, this is a very good week for you. But even if you don't, there are plenty of releases that should make your wallet feel the pinch.
With the May 12th home video release date of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans just around the corner, Sony Pictures has decided to give fans a few options on the release date.
