Children of the Corn

Movie licenses haven't exactly fared well in the world of video games, but with the formation of a new company, we also get new hope ... right? Either way, one studio is ready to throw its hat into the video game arena and bring along with it some of horror's most beloved characters. From the Press Release

Finally some long awaited sequels will be making their hi-def debuts thanks to a new deal between Echo Bridge Entertainment and Miramax! Franchise completists' wallets will be burning all over the country!

Well ... here's a surprise. Reshoots on a movie that's only being made to hang on to the rights of a franchise? Whodathunkit? Alas, the latest entry for the seven people out there looking forward to another Children of the Corn sequel is undergoing reshoots for the sake of adding more children to said corn.

It's no secret that for a very long time now Dimension Films, who were at one point pumping out horror movies left and right, has seemed all but extinct.

If there's one cinematic mystery that's always eluded me, it's the burning question -- Who in the world have they been making all these Children of the Corn sequels for? Is there some demand I don't know about? I mean really.

Say what you will about The Weinstein Company, the bottom line is that they have their hands firmly gripped upon some of horror's top franchises, and they've always done their best to be kind to the genre. True, some efforts have been better than others, but you have to take the bad with the good, man!

Another film starring the recently departed Brittany Murphy, along with Mike Vogel and Danny Pino, makes it home video bow this week along with big studio releases Pandorum, Whiteout, and Gamer.

What is it about The Children of the Corn that has studios so hot to release sequels, remakes, and more sequels and remakes. The Weinstein Co. is out to bring us another shot of corniness, and they've even tapped a writer already.

Remember that Eliza Dushku movie about a group of surfers finding a cursed board game that claims a life whenever played? It seems like we've been reporting about Open Graves for a couple years now. That might be because we have. We last reported on it this past February, quoting Dushku herself as being unsure if or when the film would see the light of day.
