You would think that any movie featuring a giant stick-carrying, tattooed bald guy in a diaper with Buckwheat hair fighting crazy looking monsters would be a recipe that we'd find irresistible here at Dread Central, but alas, aside from the battles, Big Man Japan had us bored to tears.
We recently received a metric ton of updates about upcoming events at the Bigfoot Crest Theater in Los Angeles so strap in because there's a lot for you guys to check out - including what could be THE GREATEST MONSTER OF ALL TIME!
It's almost too easy, no? Still no one has made an actual proper spoof of the Godzilla movies, or at the very least the abysmal in name only remake, in quite some time. That changes now.
Below you'll find the first details and trailer for Notzilla: The Duke of Monsters from director Mitch Teemley, starring Patrick Warburton. Check it out and sound off about what you think!
Yesterday we shorted you on the weekly WTF Friday of the Week. Day late, dollar short, but I think this trailer for Aargh will quench your thirst for WTF-ness. A 15-minute German short film about the day in the life of an ex-star of Japanese monster movies, and I don't mean one of the human actors.
There are few things we find more irresistible than the Japanese giant monster movies of yesteryear. A staple of many of our childhoods, these wonderfully campy flicks live on today through DVD and Blu-ray and are bound to charm generations to come into loving huge city stompers.
Wanna get a better look at the creature from the Korean nature-run-amok terror-fest known here in the States as Chawz? Of course you do! Why else would you be here? Our boyish charm?
Most of us may have dodged a bullet when it comes to the latest outbreak of swine flu, but thanks to Magnet Releasing ... no one can escape the rampaging piece of living Korean pork now known as Chawz!
October is really shaping up DVD-wise. Now we can add a new giant monster movie from Japan that until now I had somehow not heard about. The 2009 daikaiju movie Demekingu is slated for a US DVD release in October under the Americanized title Demeking, The Sea Monster. Hey, as long as it's better than Kraa! The Sea Monster, I'll be happy.

Any day when we can report on a new classic Gamera flick getting the treatment that it deserves is a good one, and Shout! Factory has just dropped the 411 on upcoming release of Gamera vs. Barugon.
There are not many movies opening in theaters this summer that I find myself anticipating. I feel the same way about the DVD market. On the other hand, as a lifelong fan of old school Japanese giant monster movies, the July 27th DVD release of Tomoo Haraguchi's Death Kappa can't come fast enough for me.
One of the coolest damn things about Shout! Factory's latest DVD release of Gamera: The Giant Monster (review here) is Gamera's anatomy chart. Simply put -- it's chock-full of win, and now you can sport it on your home computers and elsewhere!

Now this is what we call serendipity! In an interesting counterpoint to the recent news stories about a potential new American version of Godzilla, Trembles' MPP this week is about Mothra. Let's just hope it doesn't give anyone any ideas about another remake!
