The Monster Squad
I don't want to say the rap song that plays during to closing credits of The Monster Squad is cheesy, but if it were any cheesier, listening to it would be considered hazardous to the health of people that suffer from lactose intolerance.
Brad Fuller has been tweeting up a storm lately, updating fans on the status of a bunch of projects. Next one up? The Platinum Dunes remake of the classic The Monster Squad for Paramount.
It’s ironic. The profession of horror journalism (or horror literature of filmmaking for that matter), at least for this writer, was initially and unsurprisingly inspired by my love of all things Halloween; yet, the subsequent October workload which has resulted often forces me to miss the simple trappings that launched my macabre interest in the first place.
Some movement on the Platinum Dunes remake of Fred Dekker's 1987 classic The Monster Squad: The flick we're all ... um ... dying for has found itself a pair of writers.
A couple of weeks back a group of lovably loony horror fans blessed us with a pretty damned good look at some of horror's bloodiest moments. Now the gang is back with a whole new beast - a loving look back at The Monster Squad.
The horror comedy hit The Monster Squad holds a very special place in the hearts of horror fans everywhere as it reunited some of the most classic movie monsters ever into one fun film that's riddled with subtle homages. A handful of this week's releases came out a day early -- on the 23rd instead of the 24th -- but even so, there aren't a lot of familiar names to choose from. The picks of the week are two Blu-rays: My Bloody Valentine (Special Edition) and The Monster Squad (20th Anniversary Edition). If you don't have the tech yet for those, then read on for what you might want to put on your shopping list.
Nomad called in recently from Monster-Mania with an update from Fred Dekker on his recent projects. He is currently working on a script for Cliffhanger 2 and absolutely has a horror project in the work as well. He just can't divulge anything during its birthing process. But wait! There's more ...
Well, the quantity of DVD releases definitely increased this week. The quality? That's up to you guys to decide.
Just a few more days until the next Fear Fest goes down at the Arlington Convention Center in Texas, did you get your tickets for it yet? If you say “no” allow me to say "what the hell!?" This show’s going to kick a lot of ass, it being our first of hopefully many pairings with the good folks behind Wizard World, so you really shouldn’t think of missing it.
I guess it’s not really a helluva lot of information, but it could be enough to ruin your morning if you’re not careful. Rob Cohen caught up with the B-D boys recently to chat about his latest film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and dropped some potentially disturbing news about the 1987 classic The Monster Squad.
