The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival has announced the highly anticipated features in its Midnighters section, as well as the complete short films lineup, which will debut at this year’s Festival from March 9-17, 2012 in Austin, Texas.

The 2012 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival runs March 9–17 in Austin, Texas, and now the full film program lineup has been announced. From a first glance at the list, it's pretty light on horror, but there are a few standouts.

The UK’s favorite horror festival visits its second home at the Glasgow Film Festival for the 7th year with its biggest lineup ever. From Friday, February 24th, to Saturday, February 25th, Film4 FrightFest will be screening 11 new must-see genre titles, 10 of which are UK premieres.

We're just a month away from the January 19th start of the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, and another horror film has been added to the Park City at Midnight category: the highly anticipated John Dies at the End, written and directed by genre legend Don Coscarelli based on David Wong's novel.

The 2011 South African HorrorFest has come to an end (it ran 26 October through 4 November), and we have the full list of feature film and short film winners. In addition, the HorrorFest Team has informed us that this year's new additions of the Alternative Market and link-up with the Cape Town Zombie Walk will definitely return in 2012.

We know there are a lot of genre festivals out there these days, but there's one in particular that just popped up on our radars here at Dread Central: the Shockfest Film Festival of Hollywood, which celebrates short narratives, documentaries, and music videos that are different from the mainstream, films that move audiences (even if it means shaking them up), and of course some incredibly "shocking" flicks as well.

The first Massachusetts Independent Film Festival is taking place Thursday, December 1st, in Arlington, MA, and one of the highlights is sure to be the debut of Christopher Di Nunzio's new film Her Heart Still Beats hosted by Patricia Films and Creepy Kid Productions, which will be followed by a Q&A. Also screening that night are six other films by some of New England's best independent filmmakers.

The Toronto After Dark Film Festival ran this past October 20-27, 2011, and what with the Halloween holiday and all the AFM news we've been pumping out, the results of the fest got a little bit lost in the shuffle. But we're remedying that right now with the rundown on who took home what from the 6th annual festival of new horror, sci-fi, action and cult movies.

The 2011 edition of the Screamfest LA Film Festival completed its run on Saturday, October 22nd, at Manns Chinese 6 in Hollywood, California, and Dread Central hit the carpet one last time to bring you further ocular candy and to give you the lowdown on which filmmakers took home the coveted ‘Skully’ Screamfest Awards.
