BioShock
NECA has been fulfilling dreams for some time now, and if you think that sentiment is silly, you are NOT a hardcore horror fan! What other company would do the leads from Lost Boys, Robocop, the first Terminator AND an entire line of Gremlins in both cute 'n fuzzy and mean 'n scary forms?!
Back in May we wrote up a story from Industry Gamers stating that hopeful fans shouldn't be writing off the possibility of a movie version of the popular video game franchise BioShock. That was then ...
Another movie we've been hearing about for a long while now is that BioShock adaptation. As time passes, so does the likelihood of seeing a big screen exploration of Rapture, although we're hearing today that we shouldn't count a movie version out just yet.
Why is it so damn hard to turn a great video game into an excellent movie? So many excellent franchises have been adapted for the screen in what can consistently be labeled as lackluster efforts.
It's not often we get to see the process of symphony orchestras providing the soundtrack to video games, but if you happen to live near California State University Northridge, you have the chance to see -- and hear -- just that on May 9th, when Garry Schyman's music from both Bioshock and Dante's Inferno will be performed live in concert.
From the Press Release:
On Thursday 2K Games announced the newest member of the BioShock franchise titled BioShock: Infinite is currently in development at Irrational Games and planned for release in 2012. YESSSSSSSS.
The last time we spoke about the possibility of a big screen adaptation of the hit 2K Games property BioShock was nearly a year ago. Sadly the project, like many others before it, has hit lots of pitfalls and delays, and today the film's producer Gore Verbiniski has shed some light on why.
While it would have kicked a copious amount of ass to have Gore Verbinski at the helm of the live action adaptation of the Take Two video game BioShock, it just wasn't in the cards. That's okay, though, because Universal's next choice is a winner and a half.
If any director working today seemed capable of tackling the film adaptation of video game BioShock, it was Gore Verbinski. Who better to bring the underwater city of Rapture to the big screen? Well, unfortunately Universal Pictures has stopped his efforts due to the rapidly rising budget, which has reportedly reached the $160 million level.
That's right, kids. Director Gore Verbinski has forsaken pirates, opting instead to explore the world of Big Daddies. Um ... that could quite possibly be the most unintentionally homo-erotic lead-in I've ever written.
Variety has learned that Pirates of the Caribbean/The Ring helmer Gore Verbinski has been brought on board by Universal to direct
BioShock (review), the film based on the incredibly good and incredibly original Xbox 360 game that was released last year and won the hearts of fans across the world almost immediatel
As reported by
IGN, during a conference call with investors, Take-Two finally formally announced BioShock 2 to absolutely nobody's surprise. Still, it's only fitting that the pencilled in October 2009 release date should be so far off.
Not that it would be surprising in the least, but a new rumor about BioShock coming to the big screen found its way onto
Joystiq today. The popular 2K Games videogame is about the most amazing piece of cinematic gameplay I’ve been immersed in for a long time, so the thought of seeing it made into a movie is both exciting and terrifying at the same time.
