With the recent boom of WitchTok and a wider acceptance of more casual occult practice has come a boom of those interested in the art of tarot, or reading cards to help interpret an uncertain future. Co-writers and directors Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg tap into this new obsession with their upcoming supernatural horror film aptly, and simply, named Tarot.

When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings—never use someone else’s deck—they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings.

Artist Trevor Henderson, creator of the iconic Sirenhead, also designed all of the monsters in the film. So if they looked familiar, like something you’ve seen in a nightmare, now you know why.
Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Avantika, and Jacob Batalon star in the film.
Tarot comes exclusively to theaters this May.
