Ryuhei Kitamura Boards the Supernatural Thriller Vessels

Full disclosure: I’m a huge Ryuhei Kitamura fan. However, that’s probably a severe understatement. As soon as I saw Versus years ago, I knew I was going to consume everything the filmmaker had to offer. It’s always an exciting moment when he signs on for a new project, especially when he decides to bring his talents Stateside. His last English-language endeavor was 2012’s severely underrated thriller No One Lives, which means we’re long overdue for a new Kitamura flick.
Variety reports that he will direct the supernatural thriller Vessels for Ubiquity Studios. Written by Gary Dauberman (Anabelle), the film tells the story of the Queen Mary, which is considered by many as one of the most haunted places on the planet. Not surprisingly, someone thought the tales surrounding the historic ocean liner would make a great movie.
“The Queen Mary has an epic history through both glorious and hard times, and I’m fascinated by all the stories. I’m determined to create a visually stunning, really scary modern day ghost story that takes place on this graceful vessel, and it’s a great honor to be able to shoot on the real Queen Mary,” Kitamura said in an official statement regarding his latest project.
Hopefully, Ryuhei Kitamura’s 2014 action flick Lupin the Third, a live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga, will find its way onto Blu-ray and DVD in the interim.
