Quentin Tarantino Says This Surprising Actor Read For ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’

Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a star-studded affair. So, it makes sense that a few celebrities probably read for most of the roles in the movie. However, in a surprising revelation, the filmmaker shared that Jennifer Lawrence was being considered to play Squeaky Fromme, who was eventually played by Dakota Fanning. She has a small, yet impactful, role in the film as Brad Pitt’s character visits the Manson Family ranch.

In an interview with The Playlist, Quentin Tarantino said,

“Early on, in the pre-production of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, I flirted around with the idea of—and [by the way], I couldn’t be happier with what Dakota Fanning did, it’s one of the best performances in the movie, she’s amazing as Squeaky Fromme, she becomes [her]. But early on, I investigated the idea of Jennifer Lawrence playing Squeaky, so she came down to the house to read the script ’cause I wasn’t letting it out. So, she came down to the house, ok, I gave her the script, go in my living room or go outside by the pool and read it.

So she read it, and afterward, we talked about it a little bit. She was interested in doing it, but something didn’t work out. But she’s a very nice person, and I respect her as an actress.”

I imagine many directors would have difficulty choosing between Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Lawrence for a role. However, this news broke my brain because I see them as two completely different types of actors. Now I’m trying to imagine a world where they swapped some of their more well-known roles.

Allow me to give you a quick refresher on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Check out the trailer and synopsis below as I continue obsessing over this thought.

In Once Upon A Time In Hollywood:

“Actor Rick Dalton gained fame and fortune by starring in a 1950s television Western, but is now struggling to find meaningful work in a Hollywood that he doesn’t recognize anymore. He spends most of his time drinking and palling around with Cliff Booth, his easygoing best friend and longtime stunt double. Rick also happens to live next door to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate — the filmmaker and budding actress whose futures will forever be altered by members of the Manson Family.”

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Emile Hirsch, Timothy Olyphant, Austin Butler, Dakota Fanning, and Al Pacino. The movie premiered in 2019 and was met with tons of controversy.

While Dakota Fanning ultimately got the role, we cannot help but wonder what Jennifer Lawrence’s take on the character would have been. Have you seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood? If so, let me know how you feel about this news at @misssharai.
