“Monoliths” Are Appearing (And Disappearing) Around the World?

The “phenomenon” began a week ago with reports that the Bureau of Land Management in Utah had discovered a strange “Monolith” in a remote corner of the desert. The 10-12 foot object was embedded in the ground in a location very reminiscent of a scene from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (the film that introduced “Monoliths” into popular consciousness).

Then, just as mysteriously as it appeared, the Utah “Monolith” seems to have vanished!

Many believe the “Monolith” was the work of famed conceptual artist John McCracken. The New York Times reports:

The artist’s son, Patrick McCracken, remains completely puzzled by the monolith. But when he heard the news, he thought back to an evening in May 2002, when his father was living in Medanales, N.M., in a small adobe house overlooking a mesa. “We were standing outside looking at the stars and he said something to the effect of that he would like to leave his artwork in remote places to be discovered later,” he recalled in a phone interview.

But the mystery deepened significantly today with reports of a second “Monolith” (or perhaps the Utah “Monolith” rematerialized) in Romania! Lad Bible reports:

The structure was found on BatcaDoamnei Hill in the city of Piatra Neamt, which is situated in Romania’s north-eastern Neamt County. Officials say they still do not know who the monolith belongs to, and have launched an investigation into why it’s there.
